HOUSE RESOLUTION

To express appreciation for the cordial relationship and bilateral economic and cultural ties between Puerto Rico and Taiwan within the context of the United States-Taiwan relations; and for other related purposes. 

STATEMENT OF MOTIVES

	The Taiwan Relations Act established the foundation for continued commercial and cultural relations between the United States and Taiwan. Taiwan remains a key democratic partner of the United States, contributing to economic growth, technological innovation, and regional stability in the Indo-Pacific under the leadership of Lai Ching-te. The United States and Taiwan continue to strengthen their economic partnership through trade agreements and collaboration in critical sectors such as semiconductors, information technology, and artificial intelligence. 

Puerto Rico, as a United States jurisdiction, offers strategic advantages for manufacturing, investment, and supply chain resilience, particularly in the pharmaceutical and medical device industries. Growing commercial ties, including new Taiwanese investment in Puerto Rico, reflect a shared commitment to economic development aligned with United States priorities. 

The House of Representatives of Puerto Rico expresses its appreciation for the strong partnership between the United States and Taiwan and recognizes Puerto Rico's role in advancing these ties. The House of Representatives of Puerto Rico encourages the Executive Branch of the Government of Puerto Rico to organize and lead a high-level trade delegation to Taiwan in 2026 to promote investment, innovation, and collaboration. 

The House further directs that a copy of this Resolution be shared to President Lai Ching-te through the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Miami, Florida, and to the Office of the Governor of Puerto Rico, as a tangible expression of the sentiments expressed herein.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF PUERTO RICO:
Section 1.- To express appreciation for the cordial relationship and bilateral economic and cultural ties between Puerto Rico and Taiwan within the context of the United States-Taiwan relations. 
Section 2.- A copy of this Resolution shall be transmitted to President Lai Ching-te through the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Miami, Florida, to the Office of the Governor of Puerto Rico, and to the media for dissemination.  
Section 3.- This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its approval.
